My Week

This week I have been learning new moves in Mau Rakau with Matua Te Haka He made us jump on the spot while moving our Taiaha. I also learnt how to make a hamburger at tech. We first were given the recipe then we followed this recipe to make the pattie and prepare the buns. It was yummy! I also did more activities with Bella May and Jennifer.

One thing I really enjoyed this week was cooking at tech because I like to eat all of the food. I did not like the bread but I ate all of the pattie. One thing I found difficult was following instructions without yelling out silly words. I will try to work harder on this next week.
Thank You for reading my blog.

Weekly Reflections

Kia ora

This week I enjoyed doing Mau Rakau on Monday because I like listening to the instructions and doing the movements

A challenge I faced was, I get distracted when people do the wrong thing, I yell out “that is cool” to the teacher who is telling them off. I do this because I want the boys to be my friends. And I think that the boys will think it’s funny.

I felt proud when I worked really hard on Tuesday with Jacinta and Bernice.

I worked with Bernice and Jennifer. We used Lego to build a car. I was the engineer which means I was looking at the instructions on the Lego book. I told Bernice which piece to get, then I told Jennifer where to put the pieces on. I concentrated really well.

I want to get better at ignoring bad behaviour. This is hard to ignore but I will try. If there’s silly behaviour I could go outside and have a drink of water.  I could move away to a quieter place.

This week I would have liked, if there was not so much rain so we could have outside breaks. It was too noisy and people got extra silly.

Whakanui 2025

Kia Ora

Here are my reflection for my second week at kura :

Te Karahe

Celebration means like when you give cake, candles and sing because it’s a special time.

My favourite celebrations are my birthday parties because I like a birthday cake and I get birthday presents.

I  celebrate my birthday by sometimes inviting people around

and singing happy birthday.

Mau Rakau

Kia ora.

On Wednesdays Matua Te Haka comes in to teach the seniors Mau Rakau.

Mau Rakau is a Maori phrase that translates “to bear  a weapon ” It is also the name of the traditional Maori martial art that uses weapons like taiaha, mere and tewhatewha.

We  hold the sticks (rakau) and line up and listen to the instructions. Matua will show us the different moves and then we have a turn. His commands use maui (left)  and matau (right) a lot, for how we move our waewae (legs).

We practice lots and lots.  I enjoy it.  I think it’s easy because I know how to do some of  the moves like Waewae muku tua a tahi all the way to waewae nuku tua ono. After he says that we say hi! Today I was the loudest.

Daffodil Day

Kia Ora

Today, 30th August I went to Tetekura Transition Education Centre in Phillipstown with Whaea Lisa and Cathie. It is for students aged 15-21. They were having a Daffodil Day market. Daffodil Day is about raising money for cancer research. I bought money for a sausage sizzle and for a biscuit, it had yellow icing and two lollies on it  and Cathie bought a coffee. I met lots of people from Ferndale School and Haeata School and they were really friendly.

We went inside and had a look around the rooms. There were older students learning to make coffee learning life skills. Then we went outside and I did cool flips on the trampoline.

I enjoyed it.

Peaceful Protest

Kia ora,

I have been learning about peaceful protesters, Martin Luther King  Jr and Te Whiti o Rongomai.

Martin Luther King Jr was a civil right activist in the 1950’s  and 1960’s. He wanted Black Americans to be treated the same as White Americans.

Racism : when people are treated unfairly because of their skin colour or background or where they come from.

Te Whiti o Rongomai was a Maori leader at Parihaka. It was a  peaceful place to live. The government came to take the land by force but the Maori people didn’t fight back. Te Whiti  o  Rongomai  said “Let not the Pakehas think to succeed by reason of their guns…I want not war, but they do”

They both showed the world a different way to protest without using violence.

Action Stations

Kia Ora

For Action Stations  I have been learning Dance

The first week we learned a hip hop dance to  7 rings by Ariana Grande. I found this difficult remembering the steps

I  enjoyed it because I like learning new steps.

The second dance we learned was a folk dance called Heel and Toe Polka. What I found difficult was keeping in time and my legs were getting sore

What I enjoyed was being able to have a break and being able to carry on dancing when I was ready.

Technology

First I got on the bus and went to Te Aratai Technology Centre.  This term I am cooking.

Today we made pizzas. We used burger buns for the base. First we put tomato sauce on it and then I grated the cheese

I cut the mushroom and capsicum into pieces. I had salami and ham too. When everything was cut up I put it on the pizza bases. Next Bella May put the pizzas in the oven. It was in the oven for 10 minutes.

My job was drying the dishes. And then we had our pizzas

Action Stations… Dance

Today I went to dance. We learnt a hip hop dance. We watched a video. There was a man showing us the dance moves.

I was copying the dance moves I followed the instructions I found it easy but I got tired

At the end the next one was called. Just Dance 2021 I remembered this dance when we did it in my class.

I enjoyed it  because it’s cool to dance.
